Why Conscious? / by Ratish Pillai

Without wearing any mask we are conscious of, we have a special face for each friend.
— Oliver Wendell Holmes Sr.

To stay conscious means to be aware. Of what? We react in different ways to people, places, and whatever else we may come in contact with. But unless we are conscious of who we are, we tend to collect a array of special masks to wear on different occasions. If we learn to live a conscious life, we can understand who we are as a person and how we are connected on a deeper level to something bigger. Then, we can walk around with only one mask, the mask that it is the most natural to us, the mask that we are born with.
